Tom
Colton
began his musical career in the early ‘80’s with popular Chicago band
Centerfold, whose most notable claim to fame was opening for legendary
guitarist Jeff Beck at the Granada Theatre in Chicago. Tom contributed his
lead vocal and guitar abilities to the progressive rock-band, Rooster
for eight years, logging nearly 400 club dates through 1987. In 1990,
he
began his own composing and recording career, writing forty songs within a
three-year period. In 1994, ten of these songs were recorded and produced
at Short Order Recorder. Welcome the Rain was engineered and
co-produced by the Shoes’ Jeff Murphy, with the lyrical
instrumental A New Gift featured on Chicago’s Finest Fingers CD
in April of 1997. Tom founded the original alternative country band Kampfire
Kowboys in 1998, beginning a three year run of club dates in top venues
in the city and suburbs. Somewhere Blue(1998, Deagan Records) and Stand
Still(2000, Deagan Records) have garnered rave local reviews and
continuing international attention. Recently lead vocalist with
Big
Guitars from Memphis, he formed Zero 260 in
June of 2002, to put some rock back into the Chicago rock n’ roll scene.
He also continues to play Lead Guitar with his old band
Centerfold
who perform at Warrenville fest every 4th of July.
In 2003 & 2004, Tom played Lead Guitar for
Band on the Run, a Paul
McCartney, Wings tribute band. He occasionally plays with them and
continues a great relationship with the band. Tom continues to make
personal appearances around town with many acts throughout the Chicago area.
In
August, 2004 Tom met up with Kimberly Kane and Big Trouble. Kimberly, one great singer, performs a
great variety of music. Shemeika Copeland, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner to,
Liz Phair and Sheryl Crow just to name a few. The band plays a lot of
classics as well like, Rolling Stones, Mellencamp to Jimi Hendrix. The
band continues to play in and around the Chicagoland area.
In the Fall of 2006, Tom began, again, writing new original material.
Working from his past experience from previous music producers and through
the magic of new computer technology, he is now recording, producing and
mixing all his own music. You can check out Tom's latest originals
music below.
In November, 2006, Tom came home
to play with his long time friends, Dave Piper & Scott Hendricks to form the
band
The Volcanoes. The Volcanoes perform a great variety of
classic rock. Check out their web-site for more info at
www.thevolcanoesband.com.
Also, in Tom's spare time he performs with his old band Centerfold. Check out their web-site at www.centerfoldband.com.
